Stowe Area
Nestled in a broad, fertile valley of the beautiful Green Mountains, Stowe is one of Vermont's most sought-after destinations. After you experience the area’s stunning natural beauty, friendly townspeople, and countless seasonal activities and events, you won’t want to leave!
The Stowe Mountain Resort is world-famous for its downhill skiing on the slopes of Mt. Mansfield, which stands tall as Vermont’s highest peak. Cross country skiers will be delighted by the extensive network of groomed and backcountry trails that criss-cross the region. Snow-shoeing (Stowe is home to Tubb’s Snowshoes ), dog-sledding, and snow-mobiling are other popular ways to witness the splendor of Vermont winters.
But summertime in Stowe has its fair share of activities as well. Hikers and bikers enjoy miles of trails and the Recreation Path, while horseback riders trot through acres of wildflower meadows. Fishermen and paddlers are right at home in the sparkling streams, and the resort offers excellent golf and tennis facilities.
Soon, the green foliage of the forested mountains burst into breath-taking reds, oranges, and yellows. Six months later, those same sugar maples will yield delicious maple syrup, to be widely consumed at many outstanding Stowe-area country inns and restaurants, like the legendary Trapp Family Lodge. And don’t forget the Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream factory for dessert!
If you’re only visiting (and you’ll surely be back!), the quaint yet sophisticated village features many shops and galleries where you can fill up with Stowe-area treats. The vibrant city of Burlington lies on 40 minutes away, while Boston, Montreal, and Quebec are easily accessible as well.
